Points of interest: RAPALLO: Situated in the innermost and protected part of the Gulf of Tigullio, Rapallo is the oldest area in the entire zone. It is a refined tourist spot well known for its marina, golf course, equestrian events, beaches and cultural events. The city centre looks out over the Vittorio Veneto promenade adorned with palm trees and flowerbeds and with a wide and splendid view of the Gulf.
The castle built in 1550 to protect the town from invasions is one of the main attractions. Today it is used to hold exhibitions and tourists events.
According to legend, the history of Rapallo dates back to the era of Hannibal – a bridge in his name is testimony of this – and continues, through numerous historical events where it is more or less a voluntary protagonist, to the present day.
TO BE VISITED: SANTUARIO DI NOSTRA SIGNORA DI MONTALLEGRO (SANCTUARY OF OUR LADY OF MONTALLEGR); PORTOFINO; SAN FRUTTUOSO WITH IOTS ABBEY; THE 5 TERRE: Only one day is needed to travel to the famous CINQUE TERRE, a beautiful destination situated east of Moneglia towards La Spezia.
It consists of five small villages (Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, Riomaggiore) set along the high and jagged coastline, where grape cultivations produce wines of great prestige.
They can easily be reached from Rapallo by sea or train.
Departing from Riomaggiore the "cinque terre" can be visited by foot, through guided tracks or by train.
Don't miss out on the walk connecting the villages of Riomaggiore and Manarola known as "Via dell'Amore". It is a 20-minute walk, peaceful and spectacular etched into the rock high above the sea. |
